These positions are located in High Plains District with one position located in Casper, WY and one position in Buffalo, WY. The High Plains District office is co-located with the Casper Field Office. Located between the base of Casper Mountain and along the banks of the North Platte River in central Wyoming, the High Plains District includes the Casper, Buffalo and New Castle Field Offices, which encompasses approximately 2.5 million acres of BLM-administered surface land and 11 million acres of mineral estate within Wyoming and Nebraska. The Buffalo Field Office manages 780,291 acres of public lands and 5.5 million acres of mineral estate within Campbell, Johnson, and Sheridan counties in north-central Wyoming. These three counties are part of the Northern Great Plains and are rich in old west history. The area contains vast deposits of oil, gas, and coal, in addition to
resources such as wildlife habitat and rangelands for livestock grazing. The public lands and adjacent BighornNational Forest provide many opportunities for recreational activities. U.S. Citizenship is required

Direct Deposit Required
You will supervise crews performing wildland firefighting and you will direct the operation of a wildland fire engine ensuring correct positioning, proper use, and operation. You will be responsible for oversight during initial attack fires, directing fireline activities and tactics of dispersed firefighters, resources equipment and aircraft in accordance with safety and management practices. You will ensure the engine is kept in a full state of readiness for emergency fire dispatch. It will be your responsibility to make initial evaluation of fire situations; determine rate of spread and potential hazards to property; suppression method to be used; hose lays; deployment of crew; point of initial attack; type of tools to be used; and application of water. You will also assist the Fire Operations Supervisor in providing operational oversight and planning wildland fire suppression activities. You will also be responsible for carrying out all normal supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Duties involve rigorous fieldwork requiring above average physical performance, endurance and superior conditioning. Work requires prolonged standing, walking over uneven ground, and recurring bending, reaching, lifting and carrying of items weighing over 50 pounds and shared lifting and carrying of heavier items. Duties include demands for strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions and over extended periods of time. Operation of some specialized equipment can place extended physical stress on incumbent during fire activities. You will be subject to meeting minimum entry age, a medical examination and must pass the work capacity test for arduous positions. To qualify at the GS-06 level , you must meet the Selective Factors and have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal Service OR have completed 6 months of graduate level college education related to range technician fire work, such as a major study in forestry, fire science or a subject-matter field directly related to this position OR have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described in the vacancy announcement.
To qualify at the GS-07 level , you must meet the Selective Factors and have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06) in the Federal Service OR have one year of graduate level college education in a field directly related to range technician fire work such as a major study in forestry, fire science or a field directly related to this position OR have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described in the vacancy announcement. Knowledge of fire behavior, suppression strategies and tactics; including causes, influence of weather, topography, slope, fuel moisture conditions and methods used in containment and control of wildfires.
Knowledge of supervisory policies, procedures and methods in order to manage and guide a diverse work workforce.
Knowledge of accepted fire safety practices and procedures and ability to communicate with fire crews and groups.

Specialized Experience Requirements for the GS-06 level: Service as a Senior Firefighter; experience as an Engine Boss directing fire suppression, managing resources, equipment, and tools directly related to the suppression of wildfires.
Specialized Experience Requirements for the GS-07 level: Service as an Assistant Engine Module Supervisor, Supervisory Fire Engine Operator or supervising a wildland fire engine crew on incidents.

This position is a Primary firefighter position and is covered under Fire Retirement. This is a career seasonal appointment; you will be in a pay status for at least 6 months, but less than 12 months a year. When work or funds are not available you will be placed in non-pay status.
This is a primary firefighter position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). The position is subject to maximum entry age (MEA) requirements.
The maximum entry-age for this position shall not exceed age 37, unless you have sufficient prior Federal civilian firefighter experience or you are a preference eligible veteran. If you are a preference eligible veteran, you may be eligible for this position after your 37th birthday. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
